Rains Clear for Member Picnic
This year’s picnic took place on a blustery day! On August 22 from 4-7pm, 50 brave members and guests took a chance on a very rainy Monday for our annual barbeque.
We trekked down East 14th to the Trout Lake gazebo and to our surprise the rain stopped right at 4! Thanks everyone for their faith.
This year’s picnic was our first meat-friendly event in 8 years, and a few people took advantage of this change. As usual everyone crammed in tons of veggie burgers and dogs, salads, fruits and other treats as well.

Health Canada has announced their proposed changes to the Marihuana Medical Access Regulations (MMAR), the legal framework by which medical cannabis can be accessed in Canada.
While the proposed changes are a mix of good and bad, Compassion Clubs and the choice of over 30,000 patients across Canada to have dispensaries provide their medical cannabis has been left in the “legal grey zone”.... [...More]

The BC Compassion Club Society (BCCCS) is celebrating a ruling for one of its members, Gary William Simpson, now living in Ontario, in a victory for the rights of medical cannabis patients. After a five-year journey of appeals, Mr. Simpson has been awarded reimbursement for the cost of his medical marijuana from the Workplace Safety & Insurance Board (WSIB), the Workers Compensation body of Ontario.... Last Wednesday, the BCCCS addressed the 420 rally in Vancouver, speaking to over 10,000 people, primarily in the 18-24 age group of who only 1 in 3 voted in the last election. BCCCS members donated $554 to help send a 100-strong contingent of MMAR exemptees from all over Canada to Parliament on January 31 2011 to protest the suffocating conditions around medical cannabis in Canada.
Only a third of the group was allowed into the Parliament building after standing in the freezing cold surrounded by police. Each patient had to go through a body scanner before being let in.... [...More]
